If good things come in small packages, then even better things must come in larger packages? Right? That seems to be the thinking over at Can-Am, as they are continuing the success and popularity of their high-performance 2-seat Maverick R, introduced last year, by releasing a new 4-seat version for the 2025 model year—the Maverick R Max.

The new model comes in four different trim packages to suit the needs and desires of offroad enthusiasts. The base model is the Maverick R Max, next is the Maverick R Max X, then there is the Maverick R Max X rs, and the top-of-the-line model is the Maverick R Max X rs with Smart Shox.
Boasting the same side-by-side industry-leading Rotax 240-horsepower engine and DCT transmission from the 2-seat Maverick R, the Maverick R Max doubles the fun with extra seating so family and friends can tag along to enjoy the thrills and excitement of monster power on the trails and sand dunes.

Comfort and Convenience
Not only is this new model tagging along with its smaller sibling backed by dominating horsepower, but it is also putting comfort at the forefront by offering the most spacious rear passenger seats in its class. Pushing the wheelbase out to 142.5 inches on the R Max model allows rear passengers coming in around the 6’2” height range to not feel cramped, and leaves the vehicle with 15% more legroom than the closest competitor. Additional passenger conveniences come in the form of garbage nets, cellular phone pockets, bottle holders, and soft goggle pouches.

Power and Durability
Enabling the Maverick R Max to rip trails and create smiles is the Rotax 999cc inline 3-cylinder turbocharged engine that sports three engine modes (Normal, Sport, Sport+ (ART)). The turbo is mounted directly to the engine block with an integrated tubeless cooling system. To help keep heat in check in the high horsepower engine, cooling duties are employed by two high-performance radiators and an intercooler.

When engineering this new sport side-by-side, the team over at Can-Am didn’t just stretch the frame, add more seats, and drop in the drivetrain from the 2-seat model. They ensured ideal performance and longevity for the larger vehicle by optimizing the 7-speed DCT for multi-passenger riding with a 40% shorter low-gear ratio and improved torque control for low-speed maneuvers. Can-Am also utilized reinforced components, as well as bevel drive shafts and gears for maximum strength and durability.

The new model tackles offroad challenges with ultra-wide suspension sporting 77-inch wide 4-link trailing arms with aluminum HD tall knuckles, 24-inches of suspension travel at both the front and rear, and an industry-leading 17-inches of ground clearance. This helps equate to enhanced steering, better load distribution, improved handling, improved anti-squat geometry, and unparalleled bump absorption.

Top Tech
Technology-wise, the base model Maverick R Max comes with a 7.6-inch wide digital display with a keypad. The three upper-tier models have a 10.25-inch touch screen display, and a telescoping steering wheel with infotainment controls. The upgraded display features built-in GPS, front and rear cameras available at any speed, and enhanced visibility of transmission gears and drive modes.
