Not all motorcycle helmets are created equal. If you are looking for a quality modular helmet this year, you have even more features to choose from that can fit in your budget. These hybrid helmets are a popular choice because they are so versatile: you can use one as a flip-up helmet for a breath of fresh air or enjoy the comfort and security of full-face coverage. This flexibility, combined with a lighter weight and other upgrades which can include moisture wicking liners, eyeglass compatibility, sun shields, and speaker pockets, make modular motorcycle helmets a smart gear choice for casual and serious riders. Let's consider five of the best options you can find right now on the market.

Speed and Strength SS4100 (Solid) Modular Motorcycle Helmet

Sporty and sleek styling yet easy on the wallet quickly sums up the new Speed and Strength SS4100 modular helmet. Designed to replace the budget friendly SS1710 modular helmet (no longer available) the SS4100 comes in at $190 for the standard black model and then goes up by about $10 for the graphic models. The SS4100 has many of the same creature comforts but with higher safety standards. Whereas the other modular motorcycle helmet was only DOT rated, this new helmet exceeds DOT and ECE 22.05 certification. The exterior features an ABS shell with a Dual-Density Protective EPS liner system inside. You can quickly and easily flip the chinbar up by simply pushing on the red button on the left side of the helmet. Tucked behind the Optically Correct Anti-Fog/Anti-Scratch Face Shield is a retractable Drop Down Internal Sun Visor that cuts glare (90% Of UV Rays) while down below a Pliable Rubber Breath Deflector ensures fog-free vision. To aid in temperature control there are adjustable vents; one on the chin and another on the top of the helmet. Warm air is escapes through the exhaust vents on the rear of the helmet.

Bell SRT (Matte Black) Modular Motorcycle Helmet

A little bit up the price scale gets you even more features, like what you can find with this new option from Bell. With a lightweight fiberglass shell, EPS cutouts for speaker installation, drop-down sun shield, and an anti-bacterial liner that is removable for cleaning, you can hit the open road with protection and comfort. The helmet is DOT-approved for both full-face and open-face usage, and it is also eyeglass compatible. The SRT is also just under four pounds, but it has a fit and feel that make Bell Helmet fans keep coming back for the latest.

HJC i90 Modular Motorcycle Helmet

You used to get a lot of bang for your buck with HJC's IS-Max II Modular helmet, but now that it's bee discontinued you get even more bang with its replacement, the HJC i90 Modular Motorcycle Helmet. A couple of the big updates to the i90 helmet is that the cheekpads are now contoured to better fit around your cheeks. There is also extra material that covers the underside of your chin that works in conjunction with the chin curtain to help block of wind and prevent wind noise. Behind the cheekpads and liner material you'll find recessed speaky pockets and grooves for a helmet speaker system. HJC worked with Sena to create their new Smart HJC Intercom System and the i90 works perfectly with this new bluetooth motorcycle communication system by providing a simple, and seamless installation. A the rear of the base of the helmet is a removable cover that hide the location where the HJC Smart Intercom main unit plugs in. This makes for a very clean installation.

Of course there's a drop down sun visor, plenty of venting and cooling, and an easy to operate chinbar mechanism in the center of the chinbar. The faceshield comes with a Pinlock System and you a get a pinlock shield included with the packaging. The i90 is DOT and ECE approved. One thing that draws many people to HJC helmets is that they are one of the few motorcycle helmet manufacturers that offers sizes beyond 2X. This helmet is available all the way up to 5X however, sizes 3X through 5X are not ECE certified. As a mid priced helmet that starts at right around $210 you really are getting a lot more bang for your buck.
