MUSQUIN CLAIMS OVERALL VICTORY AT THE FLORIDA NATIONAL

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Red Bull KTM Factory Racing's Marvin Musquin dug deep in the hottest and roughest of conditions on Saturday to come away with his first overall victory of the season at WW Ranch in Jacksonville, Florida for Round 5 of the 2019 AMA Pro Motocross Championship. With tough conditions for everyone, Musquin was able to maintain the most consistency up front with 1-3 finishes to claim the hard-earned overall win.
In Moto 1, Musquin got off to a great start aboard the
KTM 450 SX-F FACTORY EDITION, where he rounded the opening lap
in third. He quickly reeled in his teammate, Cooper Webb, to
overtake the second-place position on lap four. Continuing his
momentum, Musquin charged up to the lead battle and made a great
pass just before the halfway point. With an incredible ride,
Musquin was able to hold off the competition to claim his first
moto-win of the season. In Moto 2, he got off to a fourth-place
start and quickly inserted himself into the podium battle ahead. It
didn't take long for the French rider to reach third, and he then
set his sights on second. On lap 10, Musquin was looking strong as
he overtook second and continued his charge toward the front.
However, he got passed with three laps to go and ultimately
finished third in the race. With the overall win, Musquin leapt
from fifth to third in the 450MX Championship Standings.
Musquin: "It would have been nice to
win both motos but I tried my best in the second moto and I ran out
of energy a bit. The track was demanding - it was tough and to pick
up the pace was difficult. I'm a little bit disappointed to not
have taken advantage of the championship points but I salvaged
third place, which was good enough for the overall."
Webb got off to a great start in 450MX Moto 1 as he powered his
KTM 450 SX-F FACTORY EDITON into the holeshot and early lead. He
settled into second early on before engaging in a battle with his
teammate, Musquin, for the position. Musquin got around him for
second but he continued to charge in the third-place position.
Ultimately settling into fourth, Webb maintained a solid pace to
secure fourth-place in the first moto. In Moto 2, he didn't get off
to the best start as he rounded the opening lap in seventh-place.
He slowly picked off riders to bring himself into the top-five and
from there he focused on maintaining his position amidst the rough
and hot conditions. With a fifth-place finish in Moto 2, Webb
secured a top-five overall finish in arguably the toughest race
thus far. After five rounds, Webb sits sixth in the 450MX
Championship Standings.
Webb: "It was a tough day today - the track was physically demanding and it was hot. I was happy to get the holeshot in the first moto and lead for a little bit but I struggled to maintain a good pace at the beginning. All-in-all, I'm happy to come away with a top-five overall and we'll continue working hard to get up there next weekend."
