Honda And Forever 21 Join Up For Throwback Apparel Line
Bust out your old '80s and '90s MX gear
dads, you're about to be totally radical again. We just heard that
American Honda and clothing retailer Forever 21 are putting out a
collabo (that's what the kids say these days instead of
collaboration) with the freshest apparel sporting throwback
elements from Honda's prime racing days. I guess what they say is
true when it comes to the fashion world, if you wait long enough
things will come back in style.
Motorcycle apparel, both for the street and dirt, has been used
outside of it's respected industries as fashion pieces plenty of
times. There have been numerous instances in music videos, live
performances, and fashion shows where leather motorcycle jackets,
MX jerseys, gloves and pants have been integrals components. Now
Honda and Forever 21 are hoping their push into the main
stream/everyday wear will shift into high gear with this joint
venture.
Whether you agree with this move from Honda
and Forever 21 or not, the bottom line is the motorcycle industry
is dying (literally) for fresh blood to grab a set of handlebars
and get excited about riding around on two wheels. Millennials just
aren't drawn motorcycles like generations past and it's having a
dramatic effect on unit sales. So if it takes the unification of a
youthful clothing retailer, a major motorcycle manufacturer, and
some old school inspired motocross apparel to spark an interest in
riding motorcycles with the youth of today, then as Lil Pump would
say, "esketit!!!!!"

Here's the press release from American Honda:
(Press Release) TORRANCE, Calif. (Jan. 23,
2018) - American Honda today announced a new and exclusive
collaboration that will see independent fashion retailer Forever 21
launching a capsule collection of apparel inspired by Honda racing
gear from the '80s and '90s. Honda's brand management agency,
Earthbound--using its expertise in uniting brands--helped bring the
two powerhouses together for this collection. To kick off the
project, the companies have organized an Instagram contest, with
the lucky winner taking home a new CRF250L motorcycle. Included in
the F21xHonda collection are men's and women's attire featuring
modern silhouettes but adorned with nostalgic iconography.
"Honda's motorcycle racing success in the '80s and '90s
was legendary, with our riders earning many championships in
domestic and international series," said Mike Snyder, Senior
Manager of Honda Powersports Marketing. "While we're focused on
winning with our current teams, it's fun to see our racing heritage
honored by Forever 21 with a completely new audience."
"We are so excited to announce our partnership with Honda for
this '80s and '90s inspired collection," said Linda Chang, VP of
Marketing for Forever 21. "We are always looking for new and
unexpected partnerships, and this collaboration with Honda is
especially relevant now with the popularity of racing and strong
ties between fashion and motorsport. We hope that both fans of
Honda and our customers will celebrate with us through this
collection."
