Mees Takes Title, Makes History
Jared Mees made history this weekend by winning
the American Flat Track Williams Grove Half Mile round, and locking
up the AFT Twins championship on his Indian Motorcycle Rogers
Racing Scout FTR750 with two rounds still to go. It was Mees' ninth
win of the season, and the first time in history the Indian brand
won the Grand National Championship title.
"We had a phenomenal year," said Mees. "I had a magnificent team
behind me. I don't know what else to say. I give all the credit to
those guys. They work so hard week-in and week-out. The Indian was
a phenomenal motorcycle for me from start to finish. It's
unbelievable."
After his championship rival and teammate Bryan Smith crashed out
of the race, all Mees needed was four points to lock up the title.
He didn't take the easy way: he led his other teammate Brad Baker
across the line by 0.22 seconds to take the win and the
championship.
