Motocross riders donate helmets for charity auction

Motorsports riders tear it up on the track all year long, but when the season is over, many turn their attention to helping those less fortunate.

That's certainly the case with the various riders who donated to this year's MX for Children "Giving Thanks" Charity Auction. MX for Children is a charity that focuses on helping kids through a variety of motocross and supercross-related activities, teaching them to ride and taking them to AMA events across the country.

The theme of this year's charity is "Helmets for Hydro." Hydrocephalus is the leading cause of brain surgery in children and affects over 1 million people in the United States. Proceeds from this year's auction, which will be held via eBay, will go toward a number of hospitals with hydrocephalus programs.

National AMA Motocross champion and U.S. Motocross des Nations team rider Ryan Dungey joined Trey Canard, Andrew Short, Ashley Fiolek and several other riders in donating signed motorcycle helmets to the charity auction.

"The children who suffer from hydrocephalus can greatly benefit from the clinical research conducted by these participating hospitals," said Dr. John Kestle, chief of pediatric neurosurgery at Primary Children's Hospital in Salt Lake City. "We will put these funds to good use to reduce infection rates and improve treatments for these kids."

A variety of motorcycle accessories will be up for auction beginning November 16th and lasting until November 25th.
