KTM has announced the pricing for its eagerly awaited, brand new middle weight adventure motorcycles, the 790 Adventure and 790 Adventure R. The Adventure will come with a price tag of $12,499 while its more offroad worthy sibling will roll in with an MSRP that is slightly higher at $13,499.

Both feature the new tubular CroMo steel frame and lightweight steel trellis subframe as well as the new 799 cc LC8c engine that puts out a claimed 95hp. There is also a 6-speed transmission that helps deliver upwards of 275 mpgs. In addition, both bike benefit from a host of electronics that equate to a safer and more performance orientated riding experience. They both have a full-color TFT dashboard, ABS braking, Ride-by wire throttle control, KTM's lean angle sensitive Motorcycle Traction Control (MTC), and selectable ride modes to suit conditions and rider's desires.

Where the two bikes differ are in the intended uses. The Adventure R is for those who intended to spend more time truly using the bike for adventures-we're talking back country single track. The R model features a beefier frontend with a 48mm WP inverted setup and a WP XPLOR progressive damping system (PDS) in the rear. This equates to 1" more of ground clearance and 1.5" more of front and rear suspension travel than the Adventure model. The R also comes with more aggressive tires with a pair of Metzeler Karoo 3s sitting in the spoke 21" and 18" wheels. Stylistically, the bike's look nearly identical save for the overall height and the front fender. On the R model the fender is mounted high up under the lower triple clamp--like a traditional offroad bike. The Adventure model's front fender is tucked neatly over the front tire for the more sporty and streamlined look you'd typically find on a street bike.

Now that's not to say the Adventure isn't an adventure ready bike, because as the name implies it is. With a good amount of ground clearance (9.2") and a plenty of suspension travel (7.9" front/rear) thanks to the WP USD 43 mm frontend and WP Monoshock in the rear the bike can tackle light duty offroading with ease. Like its sibling, the Adventure also comes with the requisite offroad protection essentials such as hand guards and skid plate. However, with a taller windscreen, adjustable two-up seat, and more street worthy Avon Trailrider tires, its comfort zone would seem to be more in line with light gravel trails and fire roads.

As you can see in the specs below, the bike are quite similar and only sport a few differences:
