Eugene Laverty Sweeps World Superbike Races In Istanbul
Laverty dominated the 11th round of the World Superbike season.
He swept the two races at the motorsports event at Istanbul Park
in Turkey, catapulting him into the third spot in the overall
standings - just 26 points behind leader Tom Sykes.
"[These] two wins today feel particularly good because I wasn't really expecting them," Laverty said after the race. "... I'm back in the running for the championship, but above all I've regained confidence and that makes me hopeful for the coming rounds."
It wasn't all good news for Laverty. After the closing of the event it was revealed that the Irish rider may soon be out of a job. He took to Twitter to vent to fans about a possible departure from the Aprilia team, following rumors indicating that the organization is looking at signing veteran Marco Melandri.
"Strange feeling though to win both races and to be on the lookout for a new job. Anyone out there need a fast employee for 2014?" he tweeted.
Regardless of any issues with his current team, Laverty is still in the hunt for the World Superbike title. He and the rest of the competitors will get back in action Sept. 29 at the Laguna Seca circuit.
