When the lights go down at the DCU Center in Worcester, Massachusetts, on the night of January 4, it will mark the beginning of a new Arenacross season and the first time the sport returns to the New England city since 2004.

Fans will be able to enjoy the new double main event format of the motorsports series, as well as the battle for points in the new Arenacross ranking system. The weekend is set to close with an Amateur Day that will feature some of the best young talent showing their stuff.

"It makes for a lot of excitement," Brandon Short, Arenacross' media relations manager, told Go Local Worcester. "Everybody's very close together, everybody's flying through the air, guys are banging into each other. It's just bound to be action-packed. ...It's such an intimate configuration anybody can literally win at any time."

All eyes will be on defending champion Tyler Bowers, whose back-to-back titles have made him the one to beat in the world of Arenacross. In the past three seasons, Bowers has dominated the competition and won 33 races, which places him fourth on the all-time wins list, Ultimate Motorcycling reports. His main competition comes from Jeff Gibson, the 2009 champion and 2012 runner-up.
