FIM Freestyle Motocross wrapped up its 2012 season in Sofia,
Bulgaria, this past weekend, and crowds were treated to some
surprising results during the final night of the motorsports competition.
The qualifying round featured 12 riders from seven countries going
to head to head, but several of the pre-race favorites failed to
advance to the final round despite having solid runs, Ultimate
Motorcycling reports. As the remaining riders pulled out their best
tricks for the second round, Australian competitor Josh Sheehan
managed to separate himself from the pack. He performed tricks like
the Lazy Flip and Tsunami Flip Indy to end the night with a
three-point lead over Remi
Bizouard, despite recently recovering from a recent crash that
hindered his performance.
"I couldn't be happier right now," Sheehan told ESPN. "I had that
crash just a week and a half ago and needed a bit of a break... I
was feeling a bit rusty in practice but started to feel better, and
then I felt great tonight. I just wanted to have fun out there and
relax, and I guess it paid off."
His victory wasn't enough to completely knock Bizouard down,
however, as the Frenchman ended the season with the Championship
title. He finished 2012 with a 22-point edge over second-place
finisher Libor Podmol.
