Max Biaggi just
wrapped up a championship run in World Superbike, but fans can
already look ahead to the 2013 season.
Premiering on February 24, the season will run over the course of
eight months and travel to 12 different countries until its finale
in Jerez, Spain, on October 20. The Jerez de la Frontera circuit is
a new addition to World Superbike, after the track made a two-year
deal with the racing league promoters. Jerez last hosted a
superbike event in 1990.
"We are delighted with the addition of another prestigious name to
our World Championship calendar," said World Superbike executive
Paolo Flammini, as quoted by Ultimate Motorcycling. "Jerez de la
Frontera is a circuit that is synonymous with great motorbike
racing in general and is situated in a catchment area with an
extraordinary sporting tradition and cultural heritage."
Jerez will host just one of the 15 rounds making up the 2013
motorsports season for World
Superbike. Unlike the 2012 year, the league is not scheduled to
return to Misano in San Marino, Brno in the Czech Republic or
Miller Motorsports Park in Utah. However, according to the news
source, it is likely the league will use one of these spots to fill
the eighth round, which is as yet unannounced.
