Pro Motocross Returns To Southwick

The 2012 Pro Motocross Championship this weekend will be the 34th
visit to a track listed among Bob "Hurricane" Hannah, Jeff Stanton,
and Ricky
Carmichael's favorite tracks, according to the event page. The
Southwick Moto-X338 track has a rough and physically demanding
reputation and is the only track of the 2012 Nationals that uses
sand.
Ryan Dungey
and Mike Alessi
will continue their season-long battle this weekend. Dungey's main
competitors, Ryan
Villopoto (Kawasaki), James
Stewart (Suzuki), and Chad Reed
(Honda) are out with injuries this season, again.
Southwick will also host the penultimate round of the Women's
Motocross Championship season. The three fastest female riders on
the planet will vie for the title. Jessica
Patterson (Suzuki) is two points ahead of Tarah Gieger
(Honda), with Ashley
Fiolek (Honda), is a mere 11 points away from the lead
position.
Moto-X 338 hosted its first race in 1972 as a collaboration of the
local police and American Legionaries. The event raised $3,000 for
the Jimmy Fund, supporting the fight against cancer in children and
adults.
