Hansen overcomes injuries to win at Anaheim

Posted on February 9, 2011 by TwoWheelMania.

Josh Hansen mounted a dramatic performance in the Supercross Lites class at the recent AMA race in Anaheim, California, waving off doctors' orders in order to compete - and eventually win - his third race of the season.

In practice, Hansen took a nasty spill and suffered a concussion and broken hand. His team's doctor told him he wouldn't medically clear him to race in the main event, but left the decision to Hansen and his father Donnie. The family ultimately had to sign a waiver with AMA in order for Hansen to compete.

And compete he did, as he used an aggressive move on lap 10 to scoot past leader Eli Tomac and seal the win. The victory for Hansen puts him on top of the point standings in the Lites class, eight points ahead of his Kawasaki teammate Broc Tickle.

Donnie recounted his decision to let his son ride in an interview with Cycle News.

"Josh said, 'I can do it.' He had tears in his eyes, and he said, 'I can't let this championship go.'"
