Acerbis' Ryan Villopoto Wins Los Angeles Supercross
Acerbis-backed Monster Energy Kawasaki's Ryan Villopoto took an
impressive win at round 3 of the 2011 AMA Monster Energy Supercross
Series.
Villopoto, who spent much of last year on the sidelines due to
injury made a strong statement in taking his 2nd win of the 2011
race season. Looking stronger and faster than ever, Villopoto
started his night off on top, taking the win in his qualifying heat
race.
When the gate dropped in the main event, however, Villopoto found
himself in 9th position well behind defending champion Ryan Dungey
and the previous round winner, James Stewart. The midpack start
didn't seem to faze Villopoto as he charged his way to 6th place on
lap two and 5th on lap three. Villopoto then passed Dungey on lap
nine and stayed on Stewart's tail until he made a mistake on lap 11
and thereafter soared his way to the checkered flag. Stewart held
onto 2nd place ahead of Ryan Dungey in 3rd.
