USA Takes Home Motocross Des Nations Title

The American team
of Ryan Dungey, Trey Canard and Andrew Short were able to best some
stiff international competition on their way to earning the
country's sixth straight Motocross des Nations title.
Dungey won the first race of the day in a match which saw Canard
crash and only manage twelfth. The second race saw the team lose
some ground. Andrew Short jumped out to an early lead, but tangled
with New Zealand's Ben Townley and crashed. Townley went on to win
while the Germans took third and fifth place, enough to put them
five points ahead of the U.S. going into the final. Yet Dungey and
Short stepped up, posting a 1-2 finish in the final race to cruise
to victory. Belgium was able to jump past Germany, who finished
third.
Italy's Antonio Cairoli looked like he could prove problematic for
the Americans early on, posting a second place finish in the first
race, but a disappointing second run for the team left them in
fifth place at the end of the day. Great Britain, meanwhile, posted
solid finishes in all three races, yet still missed out on the
podium, trailing Germany by a point. German rider Max Nagal crashed
in the third race, helping to evaporate the country's five-point
lead.
